Chat Community Guidelines
These guidelines explain how to keep Camera New Vision’s chat and messaging features welcoming, safe, and useful for everyone.
1. Be respectful
Camera New Vision is used by people with different backgrounds, abilities, languages, and reasons for being here. Treat everyone with patience and kindness, the way you would want to be treated.
- Do not harass, insult, mock, threaten, stalk, or intimidate anyone, in words, images, voice messages, or videos.
- Do not use slurs, hate speech, or derogatory language about a person’s disability, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, or appearance.
- Respect that many users of Camera New Vision are blind or have low vision. Describe images when it is helpful, and avoid relying on visuals alone to make your point.
- Disagree with ideas, not people. If a conversation becomes heated, step away rather than escalating.
2. Keep it safe and lawful
Do not use chat to share content that could harm people or break the law. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Sexual content, nudity, or sexualisation of minors. We report child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities.
- Violent, gory, or graphic content, or content that encourages self‑harm, suicide, eating disorders, or violence against others.
- Content that promotes, sells, or instructs how to make or obtain illegal drugs, weapons, or other illegal goods.
- Fraud, scams, phishing links, or attempts to obtain money, gifts, or personal data under false pretences.
- Content that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
- Malware, viruses, or any code or file designed to harm devices or accounts.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. Chat is not a substitute for emergency help.
3. Protect privacy and consent
What people share in chat stays between the participants unless they agree otherwise. Respect that.
- Do not share another person’s private information without their permission. This includes real name, address, phone number, email, location, workplace, financial details, or identification numbers.
- Do not share, screenshot, forward, or re‑upload private messages, voice messages, photos, or videos from a direct conversation without the sender’s consent. In some jurisdictions doing so is illegal.
- Before you record or share a voice message, image, or video that includes another person, get their consent where required by law or where a reasonable person would expect it.
- Be careful with content from calls. Do not capture, screenshot, or record a call without informing the other participant and obtaining any consent required by law.
4. Stay on topic and use the right space
System group conversations are organised by topic and language so that people can find what they need. Keep each group focused on its purpose:
- Communication — general conversation, getting to know people, day‑to‑day chat.
- Dating — meeting people for dating and friendship, with respect and honesty.
- Support — technical help with the app and service, and peer support for using Camera New Vision.
- News — sharing and discussing news relevant to the community.
- Marketplace — offering and finding goods and services. Do not post illegal goods, scams, or anything that violates these guidelines.
Post in the language of the group so that other members can follow the conversation. If you want to talk in another language, use the matching group or start a direct conversation.
5. No spam or automation
- Do not send the same or similar message repeatedly, or post large amounts of content that disrupts a conversation.
- Do not use bots, scripts, or other automated means to send messages, scrape content, or interact with chat features.
- Do not use chat to promote commercial products or services unless it is clearly allowed in the relevant group (for example, Marketplace) and complies with these guidelines.
- Do not impersonate other users, volunteers, moderators, or staff. Use a display name that represents you, not someone else.
6. How moderation works
In system group conversations, messages from users who are not moderators may be held for review before they become visible to others. Moderators can approve, reject, or remove messages and can handle reports.
- Moderators are users we have designated to help keep system groups safe and on topic. They act on our behalf.
- A message may be rejected or removed if it violates these guidelines, our Terms of Use, or applicable law.
- Moderation decisions are made in good faith and are final unless we determine otherwise. We are not obligated to explain every decision, but we aim to be fair.
- Direct conversations and user‑created group conversations are not pre‑moderated, but the same rules apply, and we can act on reports in those conversations too.
7. Reporting and blocking
If you see a message that you believe violates these guidelines, you can report it. Long‑press the message (or use the message actions menu) and choose Report.
- Reports are reviewed by moderators or staff. We may not respond to every report individually, but we review them.
- You can block another user from a direct conversation. Blocking hides their messages from you and stops new messages from being delivered to you live. It does not delete messages already shared in group or system conversations.
- You can manage your blocked users in Chat Settings.
- Do not abuse the report or block tools to silence people you simply disagree with, or to harass others by repeated reports.
8. What happens when rules are broken
We may take action when these guidelines or our Terms of Use are broken. Depending on the severity and context, action may include:
- Removing, hiding, or disabling the offending message.
- Limiting a user’s ability to post in system groups, or holding all of their messages for review.
- Suspending or terminating the account, as described in the Terms of Use.
- Reporting unlawful activity to the relevant authorities.
We act to protect the community and the service. We do not owe any user a warning before taking action, and we are not liable for content removal or account action taken in good faith.
9. Contact
If you have questions about these guidelines, or want to appeal a moderation decision, contact us using the details in the Camera New Vision app or on our website.
